Autism Screening
Autism is a complex developmental condition, which affects a range of behaviours, communication skills, and senses, and like everyone not ‘on the spectrum’ of Autism, people with this condition have a range of unique strengths and weaknesses.
Research indicates that a combination of genetics and the environment play a part in the onset of ASD. There are a number of genes associated with the disorder.
Early diagnosis and intervention is the best start to understanding Autism, and learning how to best help those with this disorder. The Total DNA Services Autism Screening Test analyses 236 genes associated with ASD, and can act as a first step for diagnosis.
Medical Sequencing
Using a medical blood draw, the DNA is extracted and analysed using Next Generation Sequencing.
We recommend that you consult a genetic counsellor both prior to, and after your test. A genetic counsellor can assist in deciphering your results, so that you get the best and most accurate information relating to your individual test.
When you order the Autism Screening Test, Total DNA Services will send you the appropriate referral forms for your genetic counsellor or doctor to complete. We then send your sample collection kit directly to one of our affiliated pathology centres. We will arrange your appointment for sample collection.
After analysis, your results will be sent to your genetic counsellor or doctor, at which time they will discuss them thoroughly with you.
You will receive your result within 4-6 weeks.
